Water does not remember. It rises, destroys, moves on – indifferent to what it leaves behind. People are the complete opposite. They remember everything. Deena Maddox understands this dialogue. ‘When the River Rose’ is a song about a special kind of courage, about what happens at dawn, in the mud, when someone decides to rebuild the wall that stood just yesterday.

Water, Wounds, Hope

-PurpleMistress

Deena Maddox simply had the courage and artistic vision to give it a name. Country music has always known what academic philosophy sometimes forgets that resilience is not heroic. It is stubborn. It smells of wet earth and sounds, at times, like a voice that has cried but still decided to sing. I absolutely recommend listening to ‘When the River Rose’!
