Andrea Cangianiello is an Italian percussionist who has traveled around half the world and performs under the pseudonym Canja. Bahia, Marrakesh, Indonesia. Years on stage alongside the musicians of Olodum, Timbalada, and master Neney Santos. Andrea Cangianiello is a man who learned rhythm where rhythm is religion and the sacred heartbeat of the Universe. And now Canja has released his debut single ‘Floor.’

‘Floor’ is a hypnotic, almost ritual track. Only drums, percussion, voices distant and ritualistic. And you know what’s remarkable? Canja doesn’t use any electronics. I like how the rhythm-pulse in ‘Floor’ draws you in so much that you stop noticing time. That is rare. The track creates images of fire, a tribe, the night somewhere far from the city, a forest.

Rhythm, Ritual, Nature

-PurpleMistress

‘Floor’ is a cinematic track that conveys life and nature in a world untouched by civilization. Perhaps there is a play on the title ‘Floor’ – the ground, as a foundation or the earth itself. Something primal and fundamental on which houses and stories later grow. Undoubtedly, it is cinematic and almost physically tangible.

Canja has gone through Candomblé, through the stages of Jazzablanca, through collaborations with Karl Potter and Tony Esposito and all of this can be heard in one track, ‘Floor.’ Definitely recommended for everyone to listen!
