Sarah, also known as Valkyrie’s Bard, left music at sixteen. Fifteen years of tattooing, classical piano and vocals behind her and silence. She came back in her late thirties, when watching what was happening in the world became unbearable. ‘MOVEMENT’ is the second single from the upcoming album ‘Drops in an Ocean’, and arguably the most honest statement in dark pop in recent times.
Grief, Awakening, Sincerity
-PurpleMistress
Thematically, Valkyrie’s Bard works in risky territory. Collective awakening, grief as a tool, the moment when a person stops feeling alone in their pain, all of this can easily turn into empty rhetoric. ‘MOVEMENT’ is a track of dynamics. The sound gradually builds momentum, opening up into an epic sound closer to the finale. There is a clear sincerity here and an attempt to speak the same language as the world. 192 radio rotations in the UK, Brazil and Colombia is a telling number for an independent artist. The Bandcamp Diaries called the debut “pop as a vessel for sustained reflection”. I absolutely recommend listening to ‘MOVEMENT’!
