Irish musician Garrett Anthony Rice, a native of County Dublin, continues to make his presence felt with confidence on the global music scene. The artist, who debuted under the alias (i) CONSULT with the album ‘Reflections Part II, the very best of…’ in October 2023 – a work that was streamed in 93 countries and caught the attention of British producer Chris Potter (The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, The Verve / Richard Ashcroft) – has not slowed down since. It is hard not to notice: this man has something to say – and he clearly has no intention of staying silent.

History, Reparations, Reckoning

On 18th May 2026, a new single ‘The Coastal Walls (the shame of everyone)’ will see the light of day – and this is, perhaps, the most bold and most personally charged work from Rice to date. The track addresses one of the most painful chapters in human history – the American slave trade, spanning the period from 1619 and, in the author’s view, pulling its threads all the way through to the present day. The choice of musical language here is a matter of principle: the recording was made across the United Kingdom and Ireland using blues-based instruments that unmistakably reference the sound of the Deep South – the very land where this tragedy unfolded.

The outro of the track deserves particular attention – deliberately unsettling, almost nightmarish in its atmosphere. Rice makes no attempt to soften or romanticise the horror: he lets it speak at full volume, and this demands a certain courage from the listener. Mark the date – 18th May – so you do not miss ‘The Coastal Walls (the shame of everyone)’!
