Oxford quartet The Subtheory are preparing to release a new single, “Things That Caught My Attention,” on July 3 The four-piece band creates music by weaving together dark trip-hop and post-punk. Their sound is heavy, a dense foundation of bass and drums over which an almost cinematic, floating atmosphere unfolds. The musicians themselves like to describe their work with the line ‘..like a black orchid, it blooms darkly and brilliantly..’, and, to be honest, you couldn’t ask for a better self-portrait.
Cinematic, Defiant, Atmospheric

In ‘Things That Caught My Attention’, the trip-hop vocals create a dark atmosphere while the drums press in with an almost physical weight, and the cinematic texture lends the track a note of unease. And this is where the real charm of The Subtheory lies. Even in their most agitated mood, they remain stylish and composed. ‘Things that caught my attention’ is the perfect track for your playlist!
