The songs in Oslo’s Grey and Purple Songbook are based on stories, and the song called “Fateful Ski Trip” is inspired by a rescue which had extraordinary consequences. It was released on 13 September 2026 and retells the winter escape of the young Håkon IV, who was carried across the mountains of Norway by two Birkebeiner skiers at the time of the civil war.
History, Courage, Survival

At the core of this story there is a remarkable imbalance: the fate of a kingdom lies in the hands of two men who are guarding a toddler during a snowstorm. Although the political aspects are important, the immediate dangers are clear. Each part of that journey is significant since it involves the life of a child.
For a project that is concerned with narrative songwriting, the material presented here is very promising since loyalty turns out to be a physical endeavour, measured in distance, exposure and the determination needed to get to safety.
