Lillian Leadbetter is a singer and songwriter originally from forests of Vermont’s Green Mountains, now based in Nashville. Her music lives somewhere between indie folk and alternative folk, and what is especially curious is that the roots of her sound go back to the Scandinavian folk tradition — hence this characteristic coolness in the melody, the feeling of a northern wind, and a barely perceptible touch of tragic romanticism. Her album State of Romance was conceptually built on the idea of preserving an innocent, slightly naive, romanticizing view of the world.
Folk, Romance, Longing

Today, May 14th, 2026, Lillian Leadbetter has presented her new single ‘Move the Moon’, which logically and in an unexpectedly touching way continues the concept of her previous releases. The song grew out of a real story of a long-distance romance, stretched across an ocean and many months. According to Lillian herself, the track became an anthem of impossible love: the desire to have everything at once, the feelings, the life, and the time together, with the understanding that this is just as beyond a person’s control as the movement of the moon itself.
In this track, I especially felt the cooled calmness of the sea under a light groove with an atypical folk style. Everything here is very tender, beautiful, overflowing with subtlety, with the sincerity of the experiences of a fragile girl, dreaming of happiness that, alas, slips away too far. One does not want to part with such dreams, thoughts, and feelings. They are woven from light, pleasant memories, reviving the soul, the tender heart and turning sadness into art.
